Day 1
In this workshop, participants will explore methods to express their unique vision using a variety of camera apps and filter styles on their smartphones.
The workshop will begin with an introduction to camera phone basics including focus lock, exposure compensation, burst shooting, and panoramic capture. Next, there will be a presentation of before and after (post-processing “in-camera”) images, followed by an exploration of basic compositional techniques using your camera phone and third-party image editing apps. Emphasis will not be on the latest iPhone or hottest new app, but instead will concentrate on the most important piece of equipment… the participant’s own aesthetic sensibility. The remainder of Day 1 will be spent looking at and analyzing camera phone images.
Day 2
Please bring 7–10 JPGs on a flash drive of photographs that you made using a camera phone and processed with image editing apps using some techniques covered in Day 1. These can be examples of what you consider successes or ones that you want more feedback from the instructor and fellow participants.
At the end of the evening, participants will leave with a point of reference to continue their personal journey developing their unique photographic vision.
About the Instructor: Blake Stenning
Keeping you up-to-date with the latest goings on, thoughts, and of course, work of fine art photographer Blake Stenning.
He defines his artistic vision as the exploration of extraordinary moments that may last for only an instant. As he observes the ever-shifting qualities of the natural world’s adaptation to the conglomerate of built environments, his mind’s eye scans the scene before him to discover unusual amalgamations of shapes and light, then organizes these disparate visual elements into an ordered composition to capture with a click of the shutter.
